Stabbing Suspect Leads Police To Weapon

WARWOOD, W.Va. —

A suspect in an overnight stabbing led police directly to the knife which may have been used in the attack.

Police arrested Richard Michael Custer, 39, after he was found covered in blood in the apartment which was the scene of the attack. He then told police he hid a lock-blade knife inside a postal box.

Custer said his medication had him "all messed up."

Sgt. Mike Beaver of the Wheeling police department said the victim was stabbed in her North 17th Street apartment around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. She then went to Club 17, where she sought help for her injuries.

When police arrived, they found the victim lying on the floor with deep wounds to her abdomen and hand.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, and is expected to fully recover.

Custer is facing felony charges of malicious wounding. He is being held in the Northern Regional Jail and was arraigned Thursday via video conference.

Police are investigating whether alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the stabbing. Beaver did confirm that an argument led to the stabbing.
