Although it might just look like a slushy mix on the roads, the roads can get slick as temperatures drop.
With winter really just starting, Emergency Management Agency officials said it is good to be prepared for upcoming storms.
"If you do have to travel, maybe take some extra water with you, blankets, in case you would get delayed. We're not expecting any heavy, heavy accumulation of snow today, but sometimes the light sleet and freezing rain will make for worse driving conditions than if we would have snow," said Marshall County EMA Deputy Director Mike Mucheck.
Some drivers in Wheeling already had those emergency items in their cars.
"(I have) a set of tools, blanket, couple pillows, ice scraper," said Maxwell Michaud.
"I always keep jumper cables, blankets, and make sure that my gas gauge never goes low, just in case it gets stuck and you've got to gun your engine a little bit, so I always try to keep it at least half full or totally full, said Dr. Angelo Georges.
If you don't have to drive in bad weather, don't. Mucheck said that is rule No. 1. If you do, take your time.
"Allow yourself plenty of time to reach your destination. Roads could become slick. It all depends on the air temperature and ground temperature. ... Bridges and overpasses will freeze before main roads."
