Steel Tariff Program Dropped

Steubenville, OH —

President Bush is rolling back the tariffs put in place on overseas steel 20 months ago, and were scheduled to be in place until 2005.

The action came after major trading partners threatened their

own tariffs on American goods unless the steel tariffs were rolled

back.

Officials say Bush will also announce new measures to help the

domestic steel industry protect itself against unfair foreign competition.

Stay tuned to News Nine for complete coverage of how this will affect local steelmakers.
