STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

Police are searching for a man who robbed a clerk at gunpoint on Wednesday in Steubenville.

The robbery happened at 2199 Sunset Blvd. around 6 p.m. at the Checks Into Cash store. Police said the robber walked into the store showing a handgun and demanded cash.

He escaped with an unknown amount of money, and as of Thursday afternoon, it was not clear if the man was recorded on surveillance video before he escaped.

The robber was described as white, about 25 to 30 years old and about 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a long-sleeved, black shirt, blue jeans, a black baseball hat and a mask covering his face.

"The best advice I have to any business owner in Steubenville is to get a good video system and as soon as possible," Steubenville Police Chief Bill McCafferty said.

Employees at the store had no comment.
