Steubenville Home Site Of Alleged Rape, Shooting

Steubenville police said they responded to a home twice in the same night for a possible rape and a shooting.

Detectives said police responded to a home near the 300 block of N. Seventh Street Wednesday evening.

The incident started with a hang-up on a 911 call. Police responded and said a woman reported that Robert Freeman raped her inside of his Dock Street home.

Steubenville police said both the alleged victim and Freeman appeared to be highly intoxicated at the time.

Police said the woman went to the hospital for a rape examination, but soon after, police were called back out to the same home for a report of a shooting.

"We did find a male subject shot in the side and leg and we're investigating whether this is related to the alleged rape also," said Chief Bill McCafferty.

The man, who police did not identify, was shot under his left arm and in his right upper thigh. He was transported to Trinity Medical Center for treatment.

Both incidents remain under investigation and police said they have suspects in mind.
