Steubenville Infant’s Death Still Undetermined

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

Despite efforts from a neighbor to save his life, an infant boy died Monday of causes not immediately known.

Steubenville emergency crews received a call around 10:40 a.m. from frantic family members at an Oregon Avenue home that 3-month-old Zoryion Johnson was bleeding and not breathing.

Police in the city’s juvenile division said they are investigating the baby’s death, but few details were released and no wrongdoing was indicated.

The baby’s aunt said he was lying in his crib while the family was getting ready to attend a funeral. She said the baby’s mother went to check on him and he wasn’t breathing.

A neighbor who performed CPR on the baby said she rushed to the home when she heard the family screaming.

“He was just lying on the couch like he was sleeping, like a little baby doll just laying there. He didn’t even look real, he was so tiny.”

The woman said she just learned CPR three weeks ago and immediately tried to save the child.

“I just grabbed him off the couch and did what they showed me in class,” she said.

The baby was later pronounced dead at Trinity Medical Center West.

The aunt, Tina Feaster, said the family recently spent time in church and she finds comfort in the fact that the baby was there before "he went home to God."

"His mother loves him, I love him, his other family loves him. We just want him to know we love him very much. He was just a precious little one," said Feaster.
