Steubenville Man Loses Nearly Everything In Overnight Fire

Cat, Dog Die In Blaze

STEUBENVILLE, OH —

Kenny Davis woke up to his neighbor banging on his door at about 3:00 A.M. Saturday morning. Flames ripping through the Ridge Avenue duplex his family shares with Danny Plotts. Plotts says the sound of his dog barking alerted him to the fire in his living room. Plotts ran to get water to put out the blaze but by the time he got back, the whole living room was engulfed in flames. Plotts got out of the apartment.

Davis went into the burning apartment and saved one of the dogs. He tried to go back to get another pet but the smoke was too thick for Davis to see. Plotts lost a dog and a cat in the blaze. Now, Plotts says with all the damage inside, he'll have to find a new apartment. Even so, with no smoke detectors inside, plotts says he's lucky his dog saved his life.

Steubenville firefighters say they don't know what caused the blaze. The state fire marshall is investigating. Smoke and fire damage to the duplex totals $30-thousand and residents may have to move out.
