Stink bugs invade the Ohio Valley

By NEWS9 and Philip Stahl

WHEELING, W.Va.---

They crawl, they can creep you out, and they're just hanging around.

Stink bugs are back -- and they aren't just coming back one at a time. They're invading our area!

Experts said the cooler weather over the past few weeks has left the annoying bugs searching for a warm place to hibernate.

That warm place? The Ohio Valley!

Benwood resident Bill Bauerly said, "Right after the rain, they came out of nowhere, I'd say a hundred to 150 of them in about 5 minutes."

Some people around the valley said they have seen them, others said they haven't -- at least not yet.
"Well, it might be true but it's not at my house just yet!" said Wheeling resident Deborah Coen.

Experts said that you are less likely to see stink bugs linger on things like plants and trees; instead, they are going to be attracted to your doors and windows.

Jerry Gooch of Wellsburg said, "Out front, on the door, the glass is just polluted with them on the glass."

The problem has become so noticeable in the last 48 hours, pictures have been coming in to us on Facebook and Twitter.

Those pictures show that some places may have just a handful, but others might have a hundred!

While they don't harm you, residents said they still will do anything to keep them away.
"Well, I wouldn't like it, but I'd try to get rid of them!" said Coen

The bugs are back for fall -- and only time will tell what happens to them when the winter months roll in!
