Stolen truck pulled from Tuscarawas River

By Briona Arradondo and  NEWS9

TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio —

Dover city police are investigating after a stolen truck was recovered Thursday from the Tuscarawas River.

The truck was found after authorizes called for a second search. The first 911 call was made 10 days ago.

Dover police and firefighters teamed with Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation officials for the second SONAR search that found the vehicle. Detectives said they are positive that it's a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck reported missing by a Dennison man.

A dive team located the truck about 60 feet off-shore of the river. There were no bodies inside.

Dover firefighters led the original search on Feb. 4 after a woman called 911 to say she saw a truck tail lights go into the river around 3 a.m., but they called off the seven-hour search when SONAR equipment from Akron didn't find any vehicles.

Dover police said they believed the truck was still in the water based on the woman's eyewitness statement and the owner's missing truck report.

The truck was towed out and officers said the case is likely the result of a joyride by one or two people.  Detectives are following leads in the investigation.
