NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. —

A Hancock County supermarket is taking steps to find thieves who heisted beef products right from the store’s meat cases.

Instead of promotional posters or sale signs, “wanted” posters greet customers in the checkout lane and meat department at the Sparkle Market.

The posters there and at other Sparkle stores in the area are asking people for information to find who workers believe may have stolen the products right of out the meat case. The posters were put up after workers realized some of their vacuum-sealed meat products were gone on two separate days in October.

The manager at the New Cumberland store said workers hope future thieves think twice before walking out the door without paying.

A review of surveillance video showed three suspected thieves in the store on Oct. 18 and Oct. 23.

Store Manager Jeremy Beal said he hopes the posters help track down the thieves with customers’ help.

Gary Nelson, who shops at market regularly, said, “I can't stand a thief. … It makes everyone's costs go up. Not just mine; it’s everybody that's around here. It hurts the economy. It hurts the people. It hurts this town, gives this town a bad name. We don't need that.”
