A Target 9 investigation took a closer look at a truck crash on the Veterans Memorial bridge that happened on April 3.

The wreck snarled traffic and littered the highway with garbage.

After contacting state troopers, Target 9 learned that the company hauling the trash was Western Express Incorporated, based out of Nashville, Tenn.

After reaching out to at least 8 members of Western Express Inc., no calls or emails were returned.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the federal agency responsible for regulating cargo carriers across the country, shared with Target 9 the Western Express company profile on its website.

There, garbage and refuse is not listed as one of the materials Western Express Inc. has authority for hire across state lines.

Also according to the FMCSA, over a two-year period, the company that employs just under 2,500 drivers, and the FMSCA has had 421 crashes reported to the agency 13 of which were fatal.

The FMCSA scores Western Express Inc. with a satisfactory carrier safety rating-- the highest a carrier can achieve.
