BELMONT AND HARRISON COUNTIES —

Tea party members geared up for the upcoming election with rallies Saturday in Harrison and Belmont counties.

Crowds of people listened to discussion about the top issues candidates will face come November.

An Ohio Congressman and candidates on the campaign trail sent out a bold message about the so-called "war on coal" and mandates from the Affordable Care Act.

One tea party member said he believes certain liberties are being threatened.

"It's not necessarily a freedom of religion or freedom of speech that we can fight that, or at least voice our opinion of that," said Barry Momyer, a rally organizer in Harrison County, in reference to the contraception mandate. "But also that they are going to force them to do it."

People at the rallies said they want the best candidate, Democrat or Republican, in office this election.

"I have never voted a straight ticket. I always research the candidates and the issues before I go to vote," said Linda Fogle, a rally attendee. "I try to be educated about what's going on."

NEWS9's Briona Arradondo asked the tea party members how they plan to hold 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney accountable for issues facing the coal industry, should he win the election.

"I would say if he would not intervene and reel the EPA back in, who really has not oversight, then I'd be really disappointed in him," said Mike Jamison, of Trinity Coal Company.

Speakers at the "We the People" rally in St. Clairsville said they plan to take action should President Obama win reelection.

"If that's the case, then hopefully the plan is for the conservatives to take hold of the Senate, hold onto the House,” said Deneen Borelli, a Fox News contributor who spoke at the Belmont County rally.

People at the tea party rallies said throughout the election process they plan to continue standing for a limited government that holds true to the U.S. Constitution.
