Threat At Local Elementary School; Evacuation Plan Worked

Related

Emergency responders are still investigating a bomb threat at Powhatan Point Elementary School.

All children are safe.

Police said a note was scribbled on a bathroom wall in the school indicating that a bomb would go off at 1 p.m.

Upon discovery of the note, the school was immediately evacuated.

Students who were not picked up by their parents were transported to the Masonic Temple. Students will be bussed home from there.

Those living within 300 feet of the school were evacuated from their homes. As of 2 p.m., crews were using a bomb-sniffing dog as a final precaution.

A disaster response team - including state police, local police, ambulance crews and fire departments - were on the scene.
