Tipster Helps Locate Suspects In 17 Burglaries

Investigators in Carroll County said a tipster led them to several suspects in connection with 17 unsolved burglaries.

Sheriff Dale Williams said the thieves targeted businesses in and around Carrollton over the past six months.

One victim, the owner of The Heartland Hill Restaurant, said she is relieved that suspects are in custody.

Cathy Maple, who has owned the restaurant for 19 years, said she was robbed in April.

There, the thieves pulled out a screen and entered through a window, ransacking tip buckets and cupboards and damaging desks and cabinets.

The burglars got away empty-handed, but investigators said it didn't stop them from hitting 16 other nearby businesses.

The sheriff said a "key tip" over the weekend helped connect six people to the burglaries. He said all of the suspects are expected to be indicted and would not release their names.

He said the suspects could be charged with as many as 40 felony counts and he's hoping it sends a strong message.

"We want to tell the citizens of Carrollton and Carroll County we're working to solve these," Williams said.

Williams said investigators are also working with Harrison County deputies to determine if the suspects could also be connected to crimes in Harrison County.
