BRIDGEPORT, Ohio —

Bill's Towing in Belmont County is no stranger to car crashes, but Thursday morning's black ice had the company's employees out in full force.

"We got busy pretty quick. It started around 6 a.m.," said Chad Coulson, co-owner of the Bridgeport-based towing company.

Workers responded to multiple crashes in the Belmont County area, including a crash on Route 147 involving William Elliott and his friend, Barry Anderson.

Elliott said his car was severely damaged in a crash overnight, and he's just thankful he and his friend are here to tell the story.

"I was like, 'Dude, you ought to grab onto something because we're going over the hill, and we're going fast," Elliott said. "It went quite a ways over the embankment, and from the looks of my car, I'm surprised we're even alive."

Elliot said he got out of the car first, then helped Anderson out. The pair climbed up a hill in the dark, then walked about a half mile to a nearby house for help.

Coulson said he was surprised Elliott and Anderson survived, too.

"It makes you think. You wonder if it could be you, too," Coulson said.
