COLUMBIANA, Ohio -- The Columbiana Police Department made four drug arrests in about a week all from different traffic stops.

The four people charged included Jasmine Steffey, Stacey Noble, Albert McVey and James Bramlett.

"We're trying to teach (officers) to dig a little deeper on traffic stops," said Police Chief Tim Gladis. "We're finding that most people we're stopping are not from the city. They're traveling through or they're coming to locations within the city. That's what we're trying to prevent. It's so much easier to keep crime out than to get it out once it's established in your community."

The latest arrest happened during a traffic stop Tuesday. Gladis explained how he and his officer suspected suspicious activity when they approached the car.

"He had his hands behind him and under him as if he was trying to get something from the seat," said Gladis. "I ordered him from the car and we found a syringe, spoon and other implements of drug abuse that are commonly found among drug addicts."

Gladis wanted to share a message with the public and any potential criminals.

"We like our community the way it is. It's nice and safe and quiet," said Gladis. "Don't come here and sell drugs. Don't come here and use drugs. You're going to be found, you're going to be arrested and you're going to be sent out of here to the Columbiana County Jail."
