A semi-truck carrying scrap metal overturned around 7 a.m. Tuesday on State Route 7 through East Liverpool after traveling a road where trucks are prohibited.

The truck, owned by PM Trucking based out of New Springfield, Ohio, was on its way to Weirton from Cleveland.

The company owner told NEWS9 the drive took a road that is prohibited to trucks.  Police said when the driver came down a hill on Route 267, the driver wanted to avoid a busy intersection, so he turned the wrong way on Route 7, eventually overturning.

The driver was taken to a local hospital, but was released a short time later.   No other injuries were reported.

The East Liverpool-based company Six Recycling brought in a crane and magnet to pick up small pieces of metal scattered all over the roadway.

Both the north and southbound lanes in the area of the crash remained closed as of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The driver of the truck will likely be cited for failure to control.
