Truck catches fire on US Route 30 in Hancock County

By NEWS9

CHESTER, W.Va. -- A truck hauling garbage caught fire along Route 30 in Hancock County Wednesday morning.

Firefighters said the driver noticed a problem around 10 a.m.

"When he was cresting the hill at the top of 30, he noticed there was smoke coming," said Chester Fire Capt. Steve Marek. "The people that were coming up the hill waved at him to tell him his truck was on fire. When he got to where he stopped, he disconnected his trailer from the tractor and that's when we got to the scene."

Marek said firefighters dumped the construction waste on the road to put it out fully.

Officials said no one was injured at the scene and the fire created only minor traffic delays. Sheriff's deputies diverted traffic into the opposite lane while firefighters put the fire out.
