Two Arrested In Connection With Steubenville Stabbing

Two people were arrested after a man was stabbed in the neck with a piece of glass early Friday.

The victim, Wayne Fleisher, was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital. His condition was not known as of noon.

Police said Joshua Higby stabbed Fleisher inside an apartment on 1430 Ridge Avenue Rear. Cassie Mamula is accused of helping Mamula hide from police, authorities said.

The stabbing happened around 12:30 a.m. Higby and Mamula were arrested around 6 a.m.

Witnesses said Fleisher, who goes by the nickname Moose, was found in the alley behind Ridge Avenue with blood gushing from his neck screaming that he was going to die.

At their initial court appearance Friday morning, Higby was charged with felonious assault and violation of a protection order and Mamula was charged with obstructing official business.

Higby is being held on the Jefferson County Justice Center on $50,000 bond and Mamula was released on her own recognizance. Both are due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 4.
