JEFFERSON COUNTY, OH —

Two dogs were found shot and dumped on the side of Brush Creek Twp. Road 54.  A beagle mix and hound mix were both found shot in the face. Humane agents from Columbiana and Jefferson counties are now investigating.

"I had heard rumors about it, and then a call came in from a resident who was walking down the road," said Columbiana Co. Humane Agent Jan Palmer. "They looked like they were somebody's pet."

It's believed to have happened sometime on Wednesday, but investigators don't know much more.

"The dogs are in Jefferson County, and we're not sure just yet if they were dumped here or if the crime was committed here," said Jefferson Co. Humane Agent Beth Fulton. "If it was committed here, Jefferson County would do the prosecution."

"We're going to meet with a detective and do some questioning of another suspect," said Palmer.

The dogs were found near the same area where another dog was found hanged back in December. Agents are not ruling out the possibility that the cases are connected.

"There's been too many issues here within the past couple years," said Palmer. "People need to heighten their awareness as far as taking care of their own pets and their children. 70% of animal abusers are also going to harm children," she said.

Palmer is urging anyone with information to come forward, and a reward is being offered.

Anyone interested in contributing to the award can call the Huntington Bank in Salineville, or can call 330-679-0275 to make an anonymous tip.
