JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

Two men led officers on two separate chases in Jefferson County. Those men now sit behind bars in the Jefferson County Jail. One chase happened Wednesday afternoon in Rayland with the other one Thursday morning in Wintersville. While the two chases are not connected and happened at different times, the Ohio State Highway Patrol was called to both incidents. Yorkville Police say the driver in the first chase, 21-year-old Cory Schrader, rear ended one car, tried to flee the scene and in the process hit another. Those divers Schrader hit decided to follow Schrader while contacting police who were then able to stop him in Rayland, pinning the car against a guardrail along Route 7. Hours later, 24-year-old Marshall Morris of Richmond, Ohio, also led police on a chase in Wintersville. Ohio State Highway Trooper Greg Mamula says it all started on the Lovers Lane Connector after clocking a motorcycle going 80 mph in a 50 mph zone. "I activated my lights at which time he proceeded to accelerate and ignore my lights. In the meantime, he passed two cars on double yellow," said Mamula. Mamula says Morris' reason for fleeing was he had no insurance or motorcycle license. After reaching speeds of almost 90 miles per hour during the chase, Mamula says Morris eventually gave up about 2 miles later on Seven Creeks Road. Mamula says chases like these two are dangerous for everyone on the road. "You try and drive with due regard, watch other traffic, watch your speed and hope everything turns out safely." Police say Schrader had a warrant out of Belmont County for larceny and that's most likely why he fled, almost hitting several other cars in the process. Mamula says Morris faces a fleeing charge and driving without a motorcycle license, a third-degree felony. Schrader also faces a fleeing charge as well as leaving the scene of an accident.
