GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio —

The Guernsey County Sheriff's Office has charged two men with aggravated murder after two people were shot dead at a Cambridge apartment building last June.

James Whatley, Jr., 31, and Deondre Crosby, 21, are the first to be directly charged for the deaths of Christopher Morrison, 31, and Justain Nelson, 25, who were victims of a shooting on June 24 at Coventry Estates apartments.

Columbus SWAT officers arrested Whatley at a house this past week, while Crosby is currently in jail on an unrelated charge, officials said.

A grand jury indicted both with two counts of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary, which all have firearm specifications, authorities said.

Over the summer, deputies searched for Tyler Burrell, of Zanesville, until he turned himself in, and officials Zanesville native Elgin Mitchell was also charged in connection with the killings.

Officials said both pleaded guilty to complicity to commit involuntary manslaughter and complicity to commit aggravated robbery. Maigen Blanchard and Boomer Churchill were also charged with complicity to commit aggravated robbery in connection with the shooting.

All six people are expected to be sentenced throughout February in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court, authorities said.
