The three-vehicle crash happened on State Route 151 near Jewett. Police said the truck went left of center, striking a Cadillac and a Chevy Impala. Killed were Mary Jane Stallman, 80, of Massilon, and her passenger, Laura Curry, 87, of Canton.
The driver of the truck, Juan Ortega, 25, is expected to be charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.
Police said Ortega was hauling garbage from LOL Logistics in Rhode Island to the Apex Landfill when the accident occurred.
The passengers in both cars were on their way to a funeral.
