Union reps talk to members about tentative agreement between USW and ArcelorMittal

Weirton, W.Va---
The terms and agreements are final, negotiations are complete and handshakes have been made between United Steel Workers Representatives and ArcelorMittal.
Now the decision to accept the contract is in the hands of union members.
Union Local 2911 President Mark Glyptis said, "Overall, the goals that we had going into the contract were met. It was an intense negotiation and we were there for over 10 weeks. And in the final analysis, it was worth it."
Glyptis said it was a long and difficult process but it was worth the wait and the fight.
Retirees, current union members and even future employees will receive the current health care packages along with some additional benefits.
This news comes with much relief Glyptis said. At one point, many questioned the possibility of a lock out or even a strike if the USW and ArcelorMittal didn't come to an agreement.
"When the members say 'hey this is something that'sgood for myself and my family,'" Glyptis said about talking to members about the agreements. "That makes you feel… It makes you feel good."
The union headquarters in Pittsburgh will put together a summary to send to the 14,000 employees affected by this agreement. Glyptis said that will take several weeks.
In addition, there will also be informational meetings to break down the contracts and find out how the workers feel, and if they will vote "yes" to accept the contracts.
"It's a fair contract and I think the company is relieved as well, and I believe they [union members] will view it as a fair contract and we'll move on from here," Glyptis said.
