Upper Big Branch memorial website launched

By The Associated Press

WHITESVILLE, W.Va. —

A new website offers a virtual visit to a memorial honoring the 29 miners killed in the 2010 explosion of the Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia.

The website, www.ubbminersmemorial.com, also features short biographies of the 29 miners, photos and events.

Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group president Sheila Combs said the group wanted to have an online tribute to the miners and showcase the memorial.

Combs told The Register-Herald that the website also will serve as a tool to attract visitors to the memorial. The group worked with Bulldog Creative Services of Huntington to create the website.
