Two rows back behind numerous news cameras, she sat with a friend by her side as investigators revealed new information Wednesday about the abduction and rape of her daugther.
The mother said she left with a sense of relief and said she is confident the man who raped her daughter would be caught soon. She said the new information might be what police and the FBI need to break the case wide open.
"They weren't getting anywhere with what he left here except for a scarred child and a messed-up family," she said.
Of the Kentucky victim, she said, "I think she is going to be the main reason why this case is coming to an end. I think she's going to be a tremendous help. I'm so sorry it happened to her, but in a way I thank her."
She said while her daughter tried to pick up the pieces of a young life shattered by a man she didn't know, she said the memories continue to haunt her knowing he's still walking the streets.
"He's a monster ... to do this to a 30-year-old, but then to do this to an 11-year-old, that's a monster," she said.
