Victim's son testifies in Ohio Craigslist trial

By The Associated Press

AKRON, Ohio —

The trial continued on Friday for a man accused of killing three men lured by phony Craigslist job postings.

On Thursday, jurors in the Akron trial of 53-year-old Richard Beasley heard testimony from a man about how his father planned to reply to a Craigslist ad that prosecutors say led to his slaying in 2011.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that Nicholas Kern testified that his father, Timothy Kern, was finalizing plans to take a job as caretaker of a large farm in Noble County.

Timothy Kern was found shot to death in the woods behind an Akron mall where authorities say he met Beasley to talk to about the job.

Jurors also heard from other men who said they discussed an online job posting in person with Beasley. The men testified on Wednesday as prosecutors try to show that robbery and identity theft were motives for the attacks.

Beasley has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and kidnapping charges and his defense attorneys say there isn't enough evidence to prove Beasley committed the crimes.

His teenage co-defendant was tried separately, convicted and sentenced to life in prison. He has agreed to testify against Beasley.
