JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

Nineteen levies are on the ballot in Jefferson County, and four of those are school district levies.

Three of the school levies --Edison Local, Indian Creek and the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School -- were on the ballot in March. All three lost by a slim margin.

The newcomer on the ballot is Buckeye Local School District, which is asking voters to approve a 2-mill permanent improvement levy that would go toward buildings, buses and books.

Edison Local is asking voters to approve a 9.45-mill levy, money that Superintendent Bill Beattie said would go toward operating costs and replacing lost funds. The levy was on the ballot in March and was also voted down in November 2011.

The Indian Creek Local School District is asking voters to approve a 4.95-mill levy that will provide funds to build a new high school and upgrade the district's existing facilities. The current high school was built in 1947.

The levy that the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School is asking voters to approve would provide the district with an additional 1 mill for current expenses.

The money would go toward purchasing equipment for buildings and renovating those buildings over the course of the next 10 years.
