Water in electrical box possible cause of small fire at post office

By NEWS9

MCMECHEN, W.Va. —

Crews responded to a small fire at a McMechen U.S. Postal Service office on Friday afternoon.

Officials said a water line broke on the second floor of the Marshall Street building and seeped through the floor into an old electrical breaker box in the basement. A fire ignited and was quickly extinguished.

Though damage was minimal and there were no reported injuries, officials said they aren't sure if the post office will be open on Saturday.

A couple lives on the third floor of the building, and officials said there was no damage on that floor.

Benwood, McMechen and Glen Dale fire crews responded.
