Water main break prompts boil order in part of Brooke Co., causes schools to dismiss early

By Adam Del Rosso and  NEWS9

FOLLANSBEE, W.Va. —

A water main break on Wednesday left a number of homes and businesses with little to no water in Follansbee and prompted two schools to dismiss students early.

Officials said the water main break happened around 8 a.m. in Rose Alley, near the intersection of Raymond Street and behind Main Street.

The 6-inch line that broke left most of downtown with low water pressure.

Crews were able to shut off the water around 11 a.m., and officials said service was restored around 1 p.m.

Follansbee Middle and Jefferson Elementary schools were let out early because of the health issues of not having access to running water.

A boil order is in effect for downtown Follansbee until 1 p.m. Thursday.

Parkview, Highland Hills and Hooverson Heights are not under that boil order.

Officials said the cause of the break was the line's old age.
