ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. -- A Weirton man was sentenced to 8 to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges following his arrest last year.
Mark Furman, 29, pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of aggravated assault, robbery and unlawful restraint in Allegheny County, Penn.
On Jan. 31, 2011, Furman allegedly attacked and attempted to sexually assault a woman inside the elevator of a Pittsburgh hotel. The woman was a newlywed who was staying in the hotel before leaving on her honeymoon.
The victim was wounded on her leg, but left for her honeymoon the next day.
Following the incident, Furman was considered armed and dangerous and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
In February 2011 he surrendered to police in Steubenville, Ohio. He appeared in Steubenville Municipal Court before being extradited to Pennsylvania.
Local police said at the time that Furman had a lengthy criminal record and that he was also wanted in Hancock County, W.Va. for stealing credit cards.
