WEIRTON, W.VA. —

Residents celebrated the multi-cultural history of Weirton Saturday with the annual Festival of Nations celebration.

More than 10 countries were represented at the Weirton Events Center, including India, Germany and the Philippines.

On stage, performers danced in national costumes to songs in front of the crowds.

"So many other ethnic groups that are here in the city of Weirton, we're here to appreciate what they do," said George Kondik, mayor of Weirton.

The event celebrates Weirton as a melting pot of ethnicities over 100 years.

Organizers said the festival gets bigger every year since it started in 2009, after the centennial celebration of the city of Weirton.

"So many people loved it, that they felt that we should do it every year," said J.K. Luthra, the festival chairman. "Here we are (in) year four, and hopefully it will continue forever."
