Weirton Revoking Rumorz Notice Of Public Nuisance

WEIRTON, W.Va. —

The city of Weirton issued the notice of public nuisance against Rumorz Showbar on July 13 and now a little over a month later, it is revoking that order.

City Attorney Vince Gurrera said city leaders were concerned with how the Alcohol Beverage Control Administration handled the investigation at Rumorz.

“From what we understand, there were arrests made at Rumorz, but we don't even know what's going on with some of that criminal activity. Part of my understanding is that part of the people who got arrested have not been convicted. Maybe one person's been convicted so far and that was a guilty plea to another charge,” Gurrera said.

They think the commission took a strict stand with Rumorz, but did not treat the recent prostitution bust at The Hurricane the same way.

“We would hope that they would treat the Weirton businesses alike and that they would treat any crimes they allege in Weirton alike, but we just don't see them doing that right now,” Gurrera said.

According to Gurrera, the recent hearing where ABCA presented facts about its investigation suggests that the ABCA may not have had as strong a case as initially thought.
