Weirton Steel Reveals Contract Details

WEIRTON, WV —

Weirton Steel and the Independent Steelworkers Union are releasing more details today on their tentative contract agreement.

The contract calls for:

5% pay decrease Pension plan freeze Cancellation of planned wage increases Allows for future discussions on changes in the health care coverage.

If the union passes the contract next Wednesday, the company management will respond with similar reductions. The company says these changes would save them $38-million dollars a year.
