John Vasich has a lot of stock in Weirton Steel. This May will mark one year he's been retired, after working at the steel maker for 29 years.
For John, he says its more than just the time he's put in, he believes the secured group of noteholders is the best fit for the company and believes the company can emerge as a stand alone.
For John, he says his stock is riding on it, "If the new company gets a chance the stock will remain and a there's a chance it will improve and we get competent management," says John.
The news of the group of bondholders' bid qualifiying for Monday's auction was music to John's ears.
In the last week, he's been reviewing his monthly income, from his PBGC money, to his social security.
Under the ISG benefits plan, he says he'd be able to make it, but is holding out for a better option.
"I'm not going to go without health care my wife has cancer problems i need good insurance," says John.
But its not just the benefits package John says concerns him, he believes the bondholders have historically been an anchor for Weirton Steel, a support he believes in.
He's had stock in Weirton Steel since the company formed an ESOP in 1983.
stock he keeps a close eye on, "its something I look at everyday," says John.
In fact, John says he plans to stay the course, right now, he says there's no sense in selling, "the stock I have now is not worth the sell its more than the value," says John.
And as for the advisors to the bondholders. "I think the people they got from Nucor they are not managers they are steel people that was our problem at Weirton Steel we had no steel people."
Ultimately, Weirton Steel will decide on the best bid. Although there are 2 bids up for review now, ISU and ISG already signed off on a 5 year contract...
