OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. —

A Wheeling man admitted in court on Wednesday to burglarizing multiple homes in the city.

Dasare Bryant, 20, pleaded guilty to all six counts of his indictment: five counts of burglary, which is one count for each house he broke into, and one count of attempted burglary.

The crimes happened between Sept. 12 and Oct. 22, 2012 in the Woodsdale section of Wheeling. Bryant broke into homes on Lynwood, Birch and Hamilton avenues and stole numerous items.

During the attempted burglary, the homeowner scared Bryant away when he was trying to open a window. Detectives were able to get fingerprints off that window and connected them to Bryant, which led to his arrest.

His defense argued during the sentencing part of Wednesday hearing that Bryant had a drug problem, but the prosecution said that’s not an excuse.

“We have neighborhoods – not just one or two homes – but neighborhoods that are in complete fear to be in their homes at night. These crimes were committed when people were upstairs sleeping,” said Ohio County Assistant Prosecutor Brian Ghaphery.

Judge David Sims sentenced Bryant to serve three to 45 years in jail. Once Bryant is released from prison, he’ll be ordered to go through drug treatment counseling.
