Wheeling man pleads guilty in connection with stabbing

WHEELING, W.Va. —


A Wheeling man who tried to stab his pregnant girlfriend and then ended up stabbing a good Samaritan who tried to stop him pleaded guilty in court last week.

Johnathan Welch pleaded guilty to malicious assault and unlawful conduct.

Judge David Sims sentenced Welch to serve three to 15 years in jail.

Welch has been in jail since the incident last year near the bus top at the intersection of 16th and Market streets.
