WHEELING, W.Va. —

A man already in jail on unrelated charges is accused of three armed robberies at Wheeling businesses.

Michael H. Kandis, 29, of Wheeling, is charged with three felony counts of second-degree robbery.

Kandis is accused of robbing Little Caesars Pizza on Nov. 5, the Elm Grove Carry Out on Nov. 16, and Gumby's on Nov. 25.

Wheeling police obtained the warrants, which were served to Kandis by corrections officers at the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail.

In a news release, Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertferger said, "Although there were no injuries reported during these robberies, the impact and fear it caused within the community made these investigations a true priority."

Kandis was arraigned before Magistrate Joe Roxby, and bond was set at $150,000.

Schwertfeger said that since Nov. 5, workers at Wheeling businesses have been "uneasy about the possibility of becoming a robbery victim, particularly at night and along the National Road corridor."

The chief said in the news release that the investigation was a success and is a testament to the work ethic of the Wheeling Police Department Investigation Division, the communications between other local law enforcement agencies and a good working relationship with the Ohio County Prosecutor's Office.
