By NEWS9

WHEELING, W.Va. —

The Wheeling Police Department is issuing a warning to residents about a telephone scheme.

Police said people are calling residents and telling them they’ve won a large amount of cash and, in some cases, also a vehicle.

The caller then tells residents to either send money to activate their winnings or go to a local store and purchase some type of money card.

The number the callers are using are typically out-of-country locations.
