Looking for a smooth ride? Thanks to the hard work of Wheeling's Public Works Department, there are now 13 different roads with a nice, new surface. A surface like the new one on Maple Avenue.

"We're three quarters of the way through the paving project for this year," Public Works Director Rusty Jebbia said. "We had almost $450,000 in the budget through the CDBG funds and the general funds."

But you may be asking yourself where did all that money come from?

"At the end of the fiscal year city manager gives me a total funding source for the cash carryover and says that's for our paving projects," said Jebbia. "I've got to take it and split it up through the various wards on the various streets that we need."

And picking those streets can be difficult.

"I've got a paving list that I was working from that was almost 10 years old because we just cannot get enough streets paved every year that we'd like too," said Jebbia.

This year the city chose 17 and now there are only four left. They couldn't start until mid-summer, but thanks to some help from mother nature they've made great progress.

"The weather has really held up we've had some fairly warmer temps than normal and that's really helped the contractor so the jobs have been going very good," Jebbia said.

Despite their best efforts there will always be work to do.

"It's just an ongoing battle with the condition of the streets and the age of the streets," Jebbia said.
