Former Rep. Charlie Wilson announced Wednesday that he will be running to regain his seat in Ohio's 6th District after losing to Bill Johnson in the last election.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Wilson said that creating jobs and partnering with local businesses are his main priorities right now. Wilson said he's also made plans to immediately begin traveling the district and visiting with local leaders and business owners to discuss current issues.
"I will work with community leaders, county officials, and local businesses to develop a strategy to encourage innovation and new start-up businesses and to appeal to employers to come to Ohio. It will be the cause of my public service," Wilson said in the release.
Wilson owns Wilson Funeral Homes and Wilson Furniture, both local family businesses, and he has served in the Ohio Legislature and Congress. He is also a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of United States congressional representatives from the Democratic Party who identify themselves as moderates with a specific interest in fiscal conservatism.
Wilson highlighted his career and personal history in the Ohio River Valley, noting that he intends to keep local interests in mind if he returns to Washington.
