Candice O’Neil, 50, was shot to death Sunday afternoon at a Millwood Township home, near Quaker City.
Sheriff Mike McCauley would not say if they are investigating the death as a murder or accidental shooting.
McCauley said 29-year-old Doug McClain was wounded in the shooting. McClain placed the initial call to 911, stating he was shot by O’Neil, who he identified as his girlfriend.
“Mr. McClain was outside of the home suffering from the gunshot wound. He also advised that his girlfriend was inside the home. She also had been shot (and) she was pronounced dead at the scene,” McCauley said.
The sheriff said he believes McClain and O’Neil were living together at the time of the shooting.
McCauley said officers will talk to McClain more about the incident and were gathering more evidence from the scene. Officials are also waiting for O’Neil’s autopsy results from Licking County.
