WELLSBURG, W.Va. -- A Brooke County democratic sheriff's candidate defeated during the West Virginia primary election in May explained his intention to run in the general election as a write-in candidate.

Former Brooke County Magistrate Judge Mike Allman said, "For write-in vote for sheriff, they'll come down and touch write-in. The next screen will appear. They'll type in Allman or Mike Allman and then it will appear on the screen. Then, they just hit accept."

Allman was defeated in May by current Brooke County Chief Deputy Chuck Jackson. Jackson received 2,218 votes, while 1,773 voters supported Allman during the democratic primary.

"I will run my campaign. I will be positive. I refuse to go negative," said Jackson. "The numbers speak for themselves."

"(I) had numerous phone calls and letters that said, 'We didn't get a chance to vote for you. Please give us a chance,'" said Allman. "This is Democrats, Republicans and Independents."

The general election is scheduled for Nov. 6.
