WTOV9 Reaches Digital Agreement With Comcast

STEUBENVILLE, OH -- WTOV-TV and Comcast announced their agreement allowing for the carriage of WTOV9S High Definition signal along with WTOVs new local weather network (WTOV Weather Plus) throughout cable systems in the Wheeling/Steubenville DMA. The agreement is part of a larger deal between Comcast and Cox Television, owners of WTOV-TV.

WTOV-HD (NBC) is now available on channel 211 to Comcast Digital Cable customers who have an HD-ready television and a digital set-top converter, which allows them to view channels broadcast in high-definition.

NBCs primetime schedule includes weekly HDTV broadcasts such as The West Wing, Law and Order, and more.

Comcast is proud to add WTOV-HD to an already strong High Definition channel line-up," said Carroll Quinn, Vice President and General Manager for Comcasts TriState System. A recent Nielsen study of Comcasts HD households proves that our HD offerings are the place to be, as 45% say they tune to these channels first when they turn on their TV. HD programs like the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Crossing Jordan and Las Vegas to mention a few will draw more customers to a balanced HD schedule offered by WTOV.

In addition, WTOV-TV along with the NBC television network will be launching a 24 hour, 7 day a week local weather channel, WEATHER PLUS. This network will feature all three of the meteorologists from WTOV9 along with a constant local forecast at the bottom of the screen. This will be available on Digital channel 208.

"Peoples appetite for weather is enormous and WTOV-TV has the most advanced weather forecasting equipment along with a team of experienced meteorologists which makes this venture a solid winner for the people of the Ohio Valley! states Tim McCoy, Vice President and General Manager of WTOV-TV. This announcement is great for our viewing audience and it's a pleasure for WTOV-TV to join with Comcast in making this happen."

Customers who subscribe to Comcast Digital Cable, in addition to being eligible for HDTV, may receive up to 240 digital channels, including 25 premium movie channels, 45 commercial-free music channels, 7 Encore themed movie channels, six Discovery channels, seven MTV and VH1 channels, more than 30 additional pay-per-view channels, a variety of Pay-Per-View sports packages featuring the NHL, MLB and NBA as well as college sports, an interactive one-screen program guide, parental controls and much more.
