W.Va. gov. appoints David Sims to be 1st Judicial Circuit judge

CHARLESTON, W.Va. —

West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin on Thursday announced the appointment of Wheeling attorney David J. Sims as circuit judge for the 1st Judicial Circuit serving Hancock, Brooke and Ohio counties.

Sims will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Arthur M. Recht.

"I'm pleased David has accepted this opportunity to serve as Circuit Judge," said Tomblin in a news release. "With his leadership experience and legal expertise, I believe David will serve the people of Hancock, Brooke and Ohio counties well as Circuit Judge."

Sims is a graduate of Georgetown University and West Virginia University College of Law and is the owner of Sims Law Offices in Wheeling.

"I'm honored Gov. Tomblin has appointed me to this position," said Sims. "I have a great respect for the law and our court system and am looking forward to serving the people of the northern panhandle."
