Linsly Boys, Morgantown Girls Win Overall OVAC Swim Titles

By Rob Metzger

Another OVAC swimming championship at Steubenville High School is complete.  Morgantown's girls won the overall, and big school championships, while the Linsly boys swept the small school, and overall points title as well.

Prior to the meet, Linsly coach and long time meet director Bill Brubaker found out the meet was being renamed in his honor, the "Bill Brubaker OVAC Swimming Championships."

One of his swimmers, senior Zach Hamm won four golds. Hamm defended his titles in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, setting a pool record in that event in the process. Hamm was also part of two Linsly gold medal winning relays. One of those relays, the 200 freestyle relay, set a meet record in 1:33.87.

St. Clairsville junior Michael Eaton won two golds and also set a pair of records. Eaton won the 100 freestyle, then the 100 breaststroke in a meet and pool record time of 59.90. He already holds the open record in that event, 58.72, set back in December.

Eaton also set the 50 freestyle record by swimmin the first leg of the Red Devils' 200 relay. Eaton swam his 50 leg in 22.42 seconds, which is a meet and pool record.

On the girls side, Wheeling Park's CeCe Jebbia was a four time gold medal winner Saturday. The junior won the 100 and 200 freestyle and was also part of Park's 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay wins.  The 200 relay set a meet and pool record.  Patriot junior Katlyn Curnes, part of those two relays, also set a meet record in the 100 breaststroke, 1:09.44
