River Joins St. Clairsville, Martins Ferry In Ohio Basketball Sweet 16

Three OVAC boys' basketball teams will take part in the Ohio regional tournaments next week. River joined St. Clairsville and Martins Ferry in the sweet 16 club with a 56-49 overtime win over two-time defending Division IV state champion Hiland in the district final at Meadowbrook Saturday.

River fell behind 14-2 early on, but rallied to pull to within four at the half, 25-21.

Brett Price led the Pilots with 31 points. He scored the first four points in overtime at the free throw line, and had a key assist to Cody Caldwell to extend the late lead to 6 points.

The Pilots will now face Youngstown Christian in the regional semifinals at the Canton Memorial Fieldhouse on Tuesday night at 6:15 p.m.

The following night, Martins Ferry meets Ironton in a Division III regional semifinal at Ohio University.

Then on Thursday night at 6:15, St. Clairsville takes on New Philadelphia at Ohio University in Division II action.
