The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Wetzel County until 11:15 p.m., prompting two schools to dismiss early.
Just after 11 a.m. the weather service received reports of water filling roadside ditches and starting to cover some roadways. In addition, some streams were about 6 inches from filling their banks.
Administrators at two schools in the county -- Shortline and Valley High -- decided to dismiss at 12:05 p.m. due to rising water concerns in their attendance areas.
The weather service said additional showers are expected to move into the county during the early to midafternoon hours. Up to an additional one-quarter of an inch of rain could cause additional rises in water, but rainfall should come to an end Thursday evening.
