Shadyside School Levy Fails

Unofficial results indicate that the Shadyside School District renewal levy failed Tuesday.The superintendent previously said the district may cut programs like all-day kindergarten and an after school program if the levy failed.In March, the levy failed by just five votes.In addition to the levy failure, Shadyside schools are also in the midst of a looming teachers strike.Teachers said they are prepared to walk out Nov. 13 if they can't reach a contract. The next negotiations are set for next week.Voters also chose two school board members from three candidates. Chuck Klug received 1,161 votes and Louis Meintel had 847 votes. Both won over Kimberly Scarnescchia, who lost with 833 votes.For more election results, visit our politics page.
