Gruzinskas Looks To Retain Sheriff's Seat

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

The race for the Democratic nominee for Marshall County sheriff pitted the incumbent sheriff against a former chief deputy.

Incumbent sheriff John Gruzinskas is projected to defeat challenger Patrick Mull.

Gruzinskas, better known in Marshall County as “Big John”, is a retired state trooper seeking a second term. Patrick Mull served as chief deputy under previous sheriff Matt Clark.

NEWS9 talked with the unofficial winner about what he plans to do in his second term in office.

“I got things in mind I want to do. I got a tremendous staff. I was never a fan of the status quo, keeping things the same. I always want to set goals for myself and in turn, that sets goals for the agency,” said Gruzinskas.

Presumptive winner, Gruzinskas, will advance to the November general election, but there is no Republican listed on the November ballot, so as things stand now Gruzinskas will retain his seat as sheriff.
